Steel is the easy part. The stamp, the fit, and the schedule are not.

Three ways a steel package goes wrong, and none of them are about the steel.

It does not pass. You bought a platform from a catalog, the building department wants a stamped calculation for the seismic anchorage, and the vendor cannot produce one because there is no engineer on their staff.

The full detail

It does not fit. The drawings were taken from an as-built that was wrong by 2 inches. The shop built to the drawing. Now the crew is on site with a torch and a grinder, on your clock, in your plant.

It does not show up. The fab shop took the job at a good price, then a bigger job walked in the door, and your platform slid four weeks.

Agitate: Each of those problems is discovered at the worst possible moment, which is when the crane is already scheduled and the equipment is already on the floor. And each one is a scheduling problem before it is a money problem, because the steel is holding up everything downstream: the equipment set, the utilities, the commissioning date.

Solution: We design it, stamp it, build it, and set it. When the field does not match the drawing, the person who can authorize the fix is standing there.

The stamp

We have engineers on staff that design, draft, and stamp these structures and pull permits if necessary.

That sentence is the reason a lot of clients call. Most fab shops can weld. Far fewer can hand a building department a signed calculation package for a mezzanine with a 125 psf live load and a seismic anchorage detail, then pull the permit and meet the inspector.

Code compliance and stamped drawings

How a steel package runs

  1. Field measure or as-built verification

We measure what is there rather than trusting a drawing set from 1997.

  2. Design and detailing

Structural design, connection design, and shop drawings. Stamped where the jurisdiction requires it.

  3. Permit

Pulled when necessary, with the drawing set the department actually wants.

  4. Shop fabrication

Cut, fit, weld, and finish in Rancho Cordova.

  5. Finish

Galvanized, powder coat, primer and paint, or specialty coatings. Finish selection is one of the biggest single cost variables on a steel package.

  6. Delivery and erection

Our own rigging inside 600 miles. Shipped nationwide when you are erecting it yourself.

Common questions

Can you stamp drawings for a permit?

Yes. We have engineers on staff who design, draft, and stamp structures and pull permits when a project requires it. That covers the usual triggers: mezzanines, elevated platforms, equipment support structures with meaningful loads, guardrail on an occupied edge, and anything a building department flags for structural review.

What does structural steel fabrication cost?

Standard commercial items have published 2026 budget ranges, for example 42-inch OSHA guardrail at $165 – $225 per linear foot and a light duty mezzanine at $18,000 – $35,000. Custom industrial steel is quoted per project because the drivers are specific: member sizes, connection complexity, finish, whether it is shop-assembled or field-assembled, and how hard it is to get a crane to the spot. Finish alone can move a package 20% or more.

Do you erect what you fabricate?

Within 600 miles of Sacramento, yes, with our own crews and our own in-house rigging. Beyond that radius we fabricate and ship nationwide and you handle erection, or we provide the design package and a shop closer to you builds it.

Can you work inside an operating plant?

That is a core competency, not an accommodation. Elevated field welding, structural modifications to live equipment, hot-work permitting, fire watch, containment for grinding and welding, and sequencing around production. See equipment installation for how we run work inside occupied facilities.

What finishes do you offer?

Hot-dip galvanizing, powder coat, shop primer with field paint, and specialty coatings for corrosive or sanitary environments. Finish type is listed in the pricing disclaimer as a cost driver for a reason. Tell us the environment, indoor or outdoor, washdown or dry, coastal or inland, and we will recommend rather than default.

How long does a typical steel package take?

It depends on engineering scope, permit review time in your jurisdiction, material availability, and current shop backlog. A straightforward handrail package moves fast. A stamped mezzanine with a permit and a galvanizing cycle is a longer calendar, and most of that calendar is the building department and the galvanizer, not the shop. Ask for a schedule at quote time and we will give you the real one.

Send the drawing, or send a photo and a tape measure reading

Both work. We would rather field-verify than build to a drawing nobody trusts.
