Steel Fabrication Shop Serving Sacramento, California

Our steel fabrication shop is at 2530 Mercantile Dr, Ste H in Rancho Cordova — about thirteen miles up Highway 50 from downtown Sacramento, in the middle of the industrial belt that runs from Power Inn Road out past Mather. That matters more than a service-area map does. When a conveyor drive fails at a Sacramento plant on a Tuesday afternoon, we can have somebody standing in front of it with a tape measure before shift change, take the measurement off the actual steel instead of the drawing, and start cutting the same day.

Sacramento is not one industry. It is almond and rice processing, aerospace propulsion, data centers, breweries and distilleries, four large hospital systems mid-expansion, and a deep-water port thirty minutes west. Those plants have one thing in common: the equipment is already running, and it cannot stop while somebody figures out how to support the new machine.

What We Build for Sacramento Plants and Facilities

Structural and miscellaneous steel. Beams, columns, equipment frames, platforms, stairs, catwalks, guarding, and support steel — fabricated to drawings our own engineers stamped. Carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum. Everything gets field-verified before it gets cut, because a Sacramento plant built in 1968 and expanded four times does not match its as-builts.

Custom processing equipment. Machines built around your product and your throughput rather than a catalog page. Seed dryers, priming rooms, material handling, barrel handlers, and one-off process equipment designed with PLC coordination, sensors, pneumatics, and interlocks accounted for from the first sketch instead of bolted on later.

The full detail

Specialized enclosures. Process enclosures, hazardous-area and explosion rooms, food and pharmaceutical enclosures, and equipment and utility surrounds — engineered to the classification and the relief requirement, not to a catalog SKU.

Dust collection and air handling. Ducting, hoods, structural support, and the sheet-metal scope that has to thread through an existing plant without moving a single production line.

Commercial and architectural steel. Handrails at $140–$185 per linear foot, 42-inch OSHA guardrail at $165–$225, ADA rail at $180–$240, mezzanines from $18,000, fixed ladders, roof access hatches, trash and generator enclosures, bollards, and gates — for the Sacramento general contractors and property managers who need stamped drawings and a permit-ready package on a schedule.

What Sacramento Actually Manufactures

Most people outside the region think Sacramento is government offices. The industrial map says otherwise.

Power Inn and Florin-Perkins is the metro's densest industrial corridor, straddling Highway 50 east of downtown, with its own business association in the Power Inn Alliance and a run of flex-industrial parks along Florin-Perkins Road. It is where a large share of the region's fabrication, food handling, and distribution actually happens.

The full detail

McClellan Park, the former McClellan Air Force Base closed in 2003, is now roughly 3,000 acres with about 8.5 million square feet of usable building and something like 230 tenants — including zero-emission vehicle manufacturer Lion Electric and data-center developer Prime Data Centers. It runs its own airport and its own rail. Mather Business Park, the former Mather Air Force Base, sits in Rancho Cordova a few minutes from our shop across 5,716 acres of air-cargo, aviation, and light industrial.

Blue Diamond Growers is headquartered here — the world's largest tree-nut processing and marketing cooperative, founded in 1910, running roughly 1,800 employees on behalf of about 3,500 almond growers. Nut processing means dust, sanitation, high-cycle material handling, and structures that have to survive washdown.

L3Harris operates the former Aerojet Rocketdyne propulsion site on Aerojet Road in Rancho Cordova. Kratos Defense builds unmanned aerial systems in the region. West across the causeway, Bayer Crop Science runs the global headquarters of its Biologics business plus vegetable-seed research, and the Port of West Sacramento moves rice out and cement and fertilizer in through a thirty-foot-deep, forty-mile ship channel with Cemex and Yara operating private terminals.

And UC Davis — twenty-six miles west, the top agricultural sciences university in the country — generates an estimated $9.57 billion in annual economic impact inside this metro, with Aggie Square adding a new innovation district on the Sacramento campus.

There is a historical footnote worth keeping in mind: the Sacramento Railyards were the Southern Pacific Central Shops, established in 1862, once the largest industrial complex west of the Rocky Mountains and the western terminus of the Transcontinental Railroad. They fabricated steel here for 131 years. We are not the first shop in this town, and the ones that lasted were the ones that could build what the drawing did not quite describe.

Getting to Your Sacramento Facility

Thirteen miles and about twenty minutes to downtown on Highway 50. Under thirty minutes to Power Inn, Florin-Perkins, McClellan Park, Metro Air Park, or the Port of West Sacramento. Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, and Woodland are all inside a forty-minute run.

What that means operationally: a same-day site walk is normal, not a favor. Field-verify Monday, fabricate Tuesday through Thursday, install Friday night into Saturday. We do not need to stage a crew in a hotel or bill mobilization to get a tape on your steel, and we do not have to batch three Sacramento jobs together to justify the drive.

For work that has to happen during a shutdown, that proximity is the difference between a plan and a scramble. When something in the field does not match the drawing at 11 p.m. — and something always does not — the shop is twenty minutes away and the material rack is in it.

Two Sacramento Constraints Worth Planning Around

Air district rules. The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District enforces Rule 403 on fugitive dust, Rule 402 on nuisance, Rule 460 on VOC content in adhesives and sealants, and Rule 902 on asbestos notification. Separately, portable diesel equipment over 50 horsepower generally needs either a district permit or CARB PERP registration before it runs on your site. Statewide, CARB's In-Use Off-Road Diesel-Fueled Fleets regulation — amended effective January 1, 2024 — reaches self-propelled diesel equipment at 25 horsepower and up, including forklifts, excavators, and cranes, and it applies to out-of-state contractors working in California as well. Certificates of Reported Compliance have to be retained for three years. A contractor who has not thought about this before mobilizing becomes your problem, on your site, with your air permit.

Summer heat and the shutdown calendar. Sacramento summers spend long stretches above 100°F, which pushes hot work, elevated welding, and confined-space jobs toward night shifts and pushes food and ag plants toward running flat out through harvest. Most of the region's processors want structural and equipment work done in the winter and early spring. Booking a January shutdown in October is normal here. Booking it in December is optimistic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your shop, and can I come see it?

2530 Mercantile Dr, Ste H, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742 — off Sunrise Boulevard, about thirteen miles up Highway 50 from downtown Sacramento. Call (916) 842-7402 and come look at the shop, the material rack, and work in progress. We would rather you see how your steel gets built than take our word for it.

How fast can you get to a Sacramento plant for a site walk?

Usually same day or next day anywhere in the metro. Power Inn, Florin-Perkins, McClellan Park, Metro Air Park, and the Port of West Sacramento are all inside a thirty-minute drive. We do not charge mobilization to come measure something in Sacramento County — we would rather spend an hour on your floor than build to a drawing that does not match the building.

Do you publish real prices, or is that a lead form?

Real prices. Our 2026 Northern California guide lists actual ranges: standard 2-line handrail $140–$185 per linear foot, 42-inch OSHA guardrail $165–$225, light-duty mezzanine $18,000–$35,000, heavy industrial mezzanine $35,000–$75,000 and up, fixed ladder 20–30 ft $3,500–$7,500. Those are fabrication-only budget numbers meant for scoping. As far as we can tell, no other fabricator in this metro publishes anything comparable.

Do you have engineers on staff, or do you sub out the drawings?

On staff. Our engineers design, draft, and stamp the structures we fabricate and pull permits where the jurisdiction requires them. That is the reason the shop drawing and the design intent do not drift apart — the person drawing it knows what the shop can cut and what the field can actually erect.

Can you work around Sacramento air district requirements on our site?

Yes, and we plan for them before we mobilize. Sac Metro Air District Rule 403 covers fugitive dust, Rule 460 restricts VOC content in adhesives and sealants, and Rule 902 governs asbestos notification. Portable diesel equipment over 50 horsepower needs a district permit or CARB PERP registration, and CARB's off-road diesel fleet regulation applies to equipment at 25 horsepower and up. We handle our own compliance paperwork so it does not land on your environmental coordinator.
